Fake & Reproduction Ancient Lamps Roman and other ancient lamps have been faked since at least the 18th century. This is a brief summary of just a few of the more common examples. Some older fake lamps, such as those in the first 'Common Fakes' category, have crept into the collections of one or two museums and other institutions, where their relatively long history has lent them an aura of credibility.
