CA5

Reference: CA5 / Cat. No.

Period: Roman

Origin: Europe

Date: 100 – 300 AD

Description:

Fabric: Copper alloy.

Manufacture: Cast.

Condition: Handle or rear lug missing, dent across base.

Notes:
Cf. Simion 2003, 11 (found at Orșova); Landessammlungen Niederösterreich, CAR-M-2519 (found at Carnuntum); Bison, 'Lucerne in bronzo', MNR 2013, 3.2; (metal Firmalampen) Szentléleky, 287; BMC IV, pp.37-9.
While the basic form of the lamp corresponds to Firmalampen, the angular nozzle is similar to those found on later metal lamps (e.g. BMC IV, Q3780-1; Xanthopoulou, Turnhout 2010, LA1.004, LA1.010).
