Date: 175 – 250 AD

Description:
On discus: stag l., pierced by spear. Shoulder decorated with myrtle-wreath.

Manufacture: Mould made.

Condition: Repaired crack to mould join and base, nozzle damaged.

Notes:
Cf. (type) Hayes, 277; (mark) Deneauve, 958; Carton 1916, pp.32-3; Le Bohec 1981, p.167 et seq.

Mark associated with Sabatius, a North African maker.


Comments:
The animal depicted may be a 'Barbary stag' (Cervus elaphus barbarus), a subspecies of red deer native to this region.
