North African Red Slipware lamp, the discus depicting draped male profile bust, possibly one of several emperors of the second half of the 4th century AD. The shoulder decorated with stylised palm-branch motif, the handle unpierced, and standing on ring base.

Length 11.5 cm
Condition:
Impression from a worn mould but a rare motif. Surface accretions.

Comments:
The traces of rust around the right-hand filling-hole are from an iron wick-pin, a needle used to adjust the wick as it was consumed.
