Origin: Probably Asia Minor

Date: 150 – 250 AD

Description:
Shoulder decorated with band of impressed ovules and small circle on each side of solid handle. Heart-shaped nozzle.

On discus: two gladiators, figure at l. in crested helmet, manica on r. arm with sword in r. hand and rectangular shield on l. arm, facing figure at r. in crested helmet, holding sica (curved sword) in l. hand above his head.


Fabric: Pale orange clay with traces of pale red slip.

Manufacture: Mould made.

Comments:
Scene appears to represent a murmillo at l. defeating a thraex at r. The thraex seems to have lost or discarded his shield and clearer examples of this same scene show him kneeling.
