Description:


Fabric: Pinkish-buff clay with glossy black slip.

Manufacture: Wheel made.

Size (cm): L. 8.5 (eh), W. 5.6, H. 3.6

Condition: Missing horizontal band handle, much of slip worn away.

Notes:
Cf. Howland, 269 (Type 25A); Djuric, C12; Hayes, 15; BMC I, Q75, Q81-2, Q624 (found at Benghazi); Lyon-Caen, 33, 40-2; Mlasowsky, 10.
Attic type but possibly Greek colonial copy.


Comments:
Minor variations – such as the quality of slip, the profile of the filling-hole rim, and the presence or absence of a handle – help to distinguish between earlier and later examples of this form (Howland, p.67 et seq.).
